Last Saturday we went to a big supermarket which is located not very far from where we live. We invited a group of friends for Sunday lunch, so I had to buy a lot of things. As I have little time to do shopping on each working day, I also had to buy a number of products for my family for the next few days.
When I wanted to take a shopping trolley, I realized I had no small change. I needed a coin in order to put it in a special slot, but I had nothing but a wad of bank notes. What I decided to do then was to take two smaller baskets instead.
To start with, I made my way to the toiletries department. I took a of toothpaste for my wife, as I remembered she needed her favourite brand with mint flavour. She ran out of washing powder and washing up liquid, so I bought some of them, too. A bundle of washing kept in the bathroom definitely needed dealing with before anyone popped in. I also grasped a of cotton wool balls as I knew they were running low.
Then I turned to the drinks gondola. It dawned on me that one of mineral water would not do. If the weather is too hot, our guests might be thirsty. Therefore I took one of orange juice for each person. As for people who like something a bit stronger, I chose a of beer for each invited guest.
As for packaged goods, I seized a of cereal and put it into my basket. We always try to prepare some kind of milk soup for our breakfast although many people argue that milk is not the product adult people need the most.We believe that eating milk soup is better than paying for a visit at the osteopath's.
Then I had to approach the fresh meat counter. My wife was planning to cook some broth for the first course and that is why I needed a big of meat. We always cook it with vegetables and season with a lot of spices. We serve it hot with noodles as I can't imagine eating it with rice. Some meat was also needed for the second course as we wanted to serve it roasted with new potatoes.
What was another thing on the list? The last but not least was a list of ingredients for a cake. My wife wanted to bake it on her own because whenever we buy something from the confectioner's, it seems to contain so much additives that it always results in heartburn. Among other dairy products, I had a of margarine and half eggs on my list.
I was wondering whether one of bread would do. If they stay a bit longer, we will have to serve something else, not only the main dish and dessert. I also remembered some of them could be bringing their children, so I needed at least one of chocolate.
As I was walking down the aisle to the checkout, suddenly I remembered there was one more thing left. I would have forgotten about our salad! I returned quickly to the fruit and vegetable counter to take some apples, oranges and a of bananas. In addition, I took a jar of my favourite jam and was just ready to finish shopping. I prepared two cards to pay for the goods: a credit one and a loyalty one. The latter was issued by the supermarket and it entitles me to get a reduction on certain products. I put all my goods on the conveyor belt, then I paid for everything, took all the shopping into my car and drove back home. my wife was very glad that I brought everything she had put on the shopping list.
